Directed by Otto Preminger and based on an Oscar Hammerstein musical, in turn based on the opera Carmen, CARMEN JONES tells the story of Carmen Jones , who works in a parachute factory in North Carolina during WWII. Carmen is arrested for fighting with a co-worker who reported her for arriving late for work. Foreman Sgt. Brown assigns young soldier Joe to deliver her to the authorities, much to the dismay of Joe's fiancée Cindy Lou, who had agreed to marry him during his leave. Carmen Jones features a Saul Bass title sequence and Diahann Carroll (Dominique Deveraux in the hit television show Dynasty)!

Crosstown Arts presents Alice Hansen & the Blaze with an opening performance by Blueshift Ensemble in The Green Room. Born in Vermont and based in Memphis, Alice Hasen is a professional violinist, recording artist, and songwriter. She leads Alice Hasen & the Blaze and is part of the Blackwater Trio, an acoustic rock band. Alice is known for her unique playing style, which combines the virtuosity of her classical upbringing with the freedom and creativity of improvisation.

Shards of Color and Other Broken Things is an exploration of color and the way it's manipulated by image and perspective. Joy Murray works in a narrative style and uses text in her paintings. She uses many kinds of paper, watercolor, acrylic, and collage. She explores concepts of transformation and the intersection of human life and the natural world. This show will feature many of her pieces focused on disability and sacred transformation of the body. TheOuterCircle travels all over the world to expand his vision. His abstract paintings voice subconscious ideas. His pieces have multiple layers and create texture within color. In addition to paint brushes, he uses everything from his fingers to credit cards to achieve a chaotic balance between color and texture.

Born in Memphis, TN, Marco began his study of music at a young age. Marco grew up watching his mother lead the church choir (while sitting next to the organ player so he wouldn’t get into trouble). Growing up in a musical family granted Marco the opportunity to travel and study sounds that were unfamiliar to him, whether it was the sound of beating on pots and pans or listening to the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. A versatile musician, Marco has performed with the National Festival Symphony at Carnegie Hall and in musical theater productions, such as Thoroughly Modern Millie, Aida, and Dreamgirls. |
