    “Entrances, Exits and the Spaces Betwixt” presents contrasting aspects of personality, showcasing the yin and yang of pneuma. The exhibit represents a mental, emotional, and spiritual transformation within a palpable dreamscape. Works presented depict and embrace ideas of transitory spaces visually, mentally and physically. 

  • “Edgewise: Exploring Pattern and Rhythm with Line”

    “Edgewise: Exploring Pattern and Rhythm with Line” by Khara Woods presents a collection of paintings, sculpture and creative devices developed since 2016. The works examine the creation of movement and texture focusing on a restricted set of grids, bold colors and shapes inspired by basic geometry. Within these confines, there are arrangements that intertwine, shift and vibrate across canvas and wood.

    “Deceive the Heavens to Cross the Seas” is composed of videos from McLean Fahnestock’s Stratagem series, where the sea and sky flip and merge to generate a new, seductive yet false horizon. Stratagems are plans or schemes that are designed to deceive. Usually referring to warfare, they are a well-executed artifice upon an enemy. Working with her interest in desire as it manifests in the landscape, these works present the ways that our desires can open a door to our ultimate deception.

    Indie Memphis & Crosstown Arts are excited to present our next Shoot & Splice: Screen Acting hosted by Akono Dixon. Akono will lead a presentation and discussion on the craft of acting; from building a character and working with a director, to script analysis, auditioning technique, and more. A Memphis native, Akono is a rising filmmaker with credits including DOLEMITE IS MY NAME, EUPHORIA, and the lead role in the upcoming Hallmark film, SPRING BREAKTHROUGH directed by Mykelti Williamson.

  • Folk All Y’all: Mary Gauthier with Jamiee Harris

    As she has so eloquently accomplished over the past 25 years, acclaimed singer-songwriter Mary Gauthier has used her art once again to traverse the uncharted waters of the past few years. Her eleventh album, the first record in over 8 years consisting of all her own songs, Dark Enough to See the Stars, follows the profound antidote to trauma, Rifles & Rosary Beads, her 2018 collaborative work with wounded Iraq war veterans. It garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album, as well as a nomination for Album of the Year by the Americana Music Association. Publication of her first book, the illuminating Saved by a Song: The Art and Healing Power of Songwriting, in 2021, amplified the specific yet relatable world view that makes her work beloved.

    Crosstown Arts presents Flamenco Memphis: Noche Flamenca, an evening of flamenco music and dance. Barcelona native dancer and choreographer, Noelia Garcia Carmona, along with guitarist Roy Brewer combine their years of experience and love of Flamenco in a night of Spanish magic and “duende!” The ensemble also includes visual artist and singer Melanie Pyron and flutist Mari Kamikura, who will blend their melodies with the rhythms of the guitar and dance.
