Memphis-based saxophonist Alex Upton will bring their original modern, straightahead jazz compositions to The Green Room at Crosstown Arts. The second half of the performance will be the premiere of a brand-new, five-movement suite for jazz combo entitled “In Retrospect”.
Alex Upton is a saxophonist and composer with a deep-rooted passion for all music both old and new. As a jazz artist, Alex has performed and recorded with nationally recognized artists including Rachel Therrien, Rahsaan Barber, Stephen Anderson, Jim Ketch, and more. In 2022, Alex was awarded first prize at the prestigious North American Saxophone Alliance’s National Jazz Artist Competition.
They have performed as a soloist at esteemed events such as the JEN Conference, North American Saxophone Alliance, and the John Coltrane Jazz Festival, and have recorded on the Summit Records label as a member of the 360 Jazz Initiative Ensemble.
