Join us for April’s installment of the Strictly Jazz series curated by Dennis Adams, this time featuring saxophonist Dr. Bill Hurd as he pays homage to the great David Sanborn!
Dr. Bill Hurd is a man of many lives. Track star (Manassas High and All-American at Notre Dame), graduate of MIT, and world-renowned ophthalmologist, he’s traveled to West Africa and Madagascar for medical mission work. He’s also an inventor, a husband to Judge Rhynette Northcross Hurd–oh, and a master musician playing with the likes of Kirk Whalum, Isaac Hayes, and Maurice White.
David Sanborn (1945–2024) was an influential American alto saxophonist renowned for blending jazz with pop and R&B, earning six Grammy Awards and releasing 25 albums. Over a six-decade career, he became a premier session musician for artists like David Bowie and Stevie Wonder, while his solo work, beginning with Taking Off (1975), defined the contemporary saxophone sound.
