About DJ Witnesse:
Memphis music historian and sound designer Jason Sims (aka DJ Witnesse) has 25 plus years of experience rocking dance floors, including a stint as an instructor for the acclaimed Redbull Music Academy. Armed with an affinity for Funk and R&B and a vast knowledge of Delta music, Sims has acted as a core operator for many local staples including Lord T & Eloise, Kingpin Skinny Pimp, Al Kapone, and even the Memphis Grizzlies.
As a music archaeologist specializing in Memphis’ Disco/Funk/Roller Boogie heyday of the 1980s, Sims takes the dance floor on a journey of discovery, respectfully co-mingling artists well known from that era (such as The Bar-Kay’s and Willie Mitchell) while unearthing vinyl magic from the treasure trove of forgotten Memphis recording studio gems left to gather dust and cobwebs through time and circumstance. These lost musical archives tell the story of Memphis as music mecca, post-Stax and post-Elvis, connecting the dots of the landscape through the 45s and LPs that moved house parties, roller rinks, and dance floors from Midtown to Melrose and beyond.
