Folk All Y’all presents: Spencer LaJoye
Spencer LaJoye brings a singular mix of queer indie folk, sharp songwriting, theatricality, and heartfelt storytelling to the stage. Performing solo with voice, guitar, and loop pedal, LaJoye builds intimate songs into surprisingly expansive performances filled with warmth, humor, and emotional immediacy.
Since the breakout success of “Plowshare Prayer,” LaJoye has earned recognition as a distinctive voice in contemporary folk music, winning the Kerrville New Folk singer/songwriter contest in 2021 and the Songwriter Serenade contest in 2024. They have shared stages and tours with artists including The Crane Wives, David Wilcox, Dar Williams, and Mary Gauthier.
Memphis audiences may remember Spencer from Crosstown Arts’ first Make the Yuletide Gay production. Now they return for a full performance of their own, offering an evening that moves easily between quiet reflection, playful humor, soaring melodies, and moments of unexpected theatricality.
