Crosstown Arts, Rhodes College, and the Turley Memphis Center for Community Engagement present the theatrical folk duo Sons of Town Hall.
Transatlantic theatrical folk duo Sons of Town Hall is creating a whole new performance genre. American songwriter/author David Berkeley and British songwriter/producer Ben Parker weave wild tales of sea voyages and frontier work between their heartbreaking songs, leading audiences on a deeply imaginative and immersive musical trip every show. For fans of Simon and Garfunkel, Tom Waits, and Monty Python alike, audiences are uplifted and inspired, transfixed and transformed by their gorgeous harmonies.
Berkeley and Parker play Josiah Chester Jones and George Ulysses Brown, respectively, 19th-century vagabonds who travel the world in a hand-built boat to escape troubled pasts in search of adventure and love. They’ll be singing songs from their brand new album Of Ghosts and Gods and telling tales from their hilarious radio-theater fiction podcast series, Madmen Cross the Water. Sons of Town Hall help us to dream and to hope. Their show is 3-parts concert, 1-part theater, and 100% joy. In these turbulent times, that is exactly what we need.
