Memphis native She’Chinah’s love for music has roots deeper than she can remember. As a child, she sang with her church choir, and music has continued to soothe her throughout her life. “I have no idea how,” she says, “but when I sing the frustration I get with being misunderstood and unheard completely goes away and I am soothed. Music loved me first really, so I fell for it back.”
When she was young, she was forbidden to listen to even the faintest, briefest note of secular music, and she didn’t find her own voice until years later. As a senior in high school, She’Chinah began writing songs, and in college at the University of Memphis, she recorded features for other musicians.
Inspired by her entrepreneurial parents, She’Chinah decided to take her God-given talent and step into the spotlight. Originating from a musically inclined family, her voice has finally found its place. She’Chinah uses her music to face reality, and the free-spirited singer prides herself on making authentic and relatable music. Her debut EP, Solitaire, was released in 2017. Now, after moving to LA and experiencing some life, She’Chinah is preparing to share her sophomore EP this fall.
