Memphis Quarantine
Crosstown Arts Galleries 1350 Concourse Ave., Suite 280, Memphis, TN, United StatesCrosstown Arts presents an exhibition of photographer Jamie Harmon's Memphis Quarantine photographs.
From March 13-May 31, 2020, Jamie Harmon photographed more than 2,000 people at more than 800 homes in the Greater Memphis area to document life during the quarantine period of the global Covid-19 pandemic. Through portraiture, the images document Memphis residents’ shared isolation anxieties and bonds renewed by survival, hope, and solidarity.

Crosstown Arts, The Green Room 1350 Concourse Ave., Suite 280, Memphis, TN, United StatesAn extraordinary artist, Lily Afshar has grounded her career on a strong foundation of excellent formal education, upon which she has built an exceptional record of innovative achievements. With a bachelor's degree from The Boston Conservatory, she earned her Master of Music at The New England Conservatory and went on to study at Florida State University, where she became the first woman in the world to be awarded the degree of Doctor of Music in guitar performance. She pursued greater proficiency with summer studies at the Banff Centre for Fine Arts and the Aspen Music Festival, advanced training at Gargnano, Italy, the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, and master classes with Andrés Segovia at the University of Southern California.

Poitier plays Mark Thackeray, an immigrant from British Guiana who wants to be an engineer but takes a job as a teacher in an inner city school in London. Without experience, Thackeray (Poitier) powers through changing the lives of his young and troubled charges, as well himself.

Scheidt School of Music treats the audience to a special performance by Southern Comfort Jazz Orchestra with featured guest Charlton Johnson. This 17-piece jazz ensemble will thrill music lovers with the sounds of legendary Harlem Renaissance artists such as Duke Ellington and Billie Holiday, along with modern composers such as Jim McNeely and Bob Brookmeyer.

Iris at Crosstown: Celebrating the Upside
Crosstown Theater 1350 Concourse Ave., Memphis, TN, United StatesIris Orchestra honors the life of Memphis philanthropist Peter Formanek with a special concert featuring pianists Inon Barnatan and Alon Goldstein. These international concert artists, welcomed as guests and friends in the home of Peter and Mary Lee Formanek during their visits to Memphis as Iris concerto soloists, will each perform music for solo piano and then join forces in music for piano four-hands. The Sunday concert at Crosstown Theater completes a weekend honoring Peter that begins with the orchestral program featuring the two pianists at Germantown Performing Arts Center on Saturday, March 5.

Tom Guarna with Ted Ludwig, Liam O’Dell, and James Sexton
Crosstown Arts, The Green Room 1350 Concourse Ave., Suite 280, Memphis, TN, United StatesGrammy-nominated guitarist, composer and arranger Tom Guarna began his musical studies at age fifteen, rapidly demonstrating a natural ability to play and compose. After studying classical guitar and composition at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music in 1986, he played local gigs in New York and fine-tuned his education with John Abercrombie. He earned a Bachelor Degree from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music and a Master’s Degree at The Juilliard School.
