    A place of home has very different meanings to all of us. Sometimes it is a memory, a sense of place, a person, a dream, a certain chaos, a metaphorical anchor, a roof over our heads.

    Exhibition of video art by Janaye Brown.
    Location: Screening Room, plus pop-out film panels in the East Atrium
    Point in Time presents sixteen of Brown’s minimalist videos made within the past seven years. Brown makes videos based on pregnant moments observed in her everyday life. Her filmmaking background informs the techniques used to build and sustain a sense of anticipation while emphasizing the passage of time.

    Crosstown Arts’ Open Crit series is a monthly critique event where visual artists are invited to bring new and/or in-progress studio work for critical feedback and group discussion particular to each artist’s practice. All sessions are free and open to the public. Special thanks to Art Center for donating a $25 gift certificate for each participating artist.

    Join filmmakers Jon Crawford and Brett Hanover as they discuss their process of making hybrid films, and how blending narrative and documentary elements can often make for more incisive and truthful work. This discussion will be moderated by filmmaker Laura Jean Hocking.

  • Sonic Youth: 30 Years of Daydream Nation

    In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation, filmmaker Lance Bangs will present a program of Daydream Nation-related films on January 11th. After the screening, local Grammy Award-winning writer and filmmaker Robert Gordon will moderate a Q&A with Bangs and Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley.

    The program will include a Put Blood In The Music documentary excerpt  from 1989 (a new restoration). Lance Bangs will also present excerpts from his new concert film of the band performing the album in its entirety in Glasgow in 2007. A few unseen gems from the band’s archives will round out the bill.
