Grid Gestures

New work by Julie Bennett Ashton using the grid as a compositional element

That modernist device the grid is the inspirational fulcrum underlying this body of work. Instead of dominating the art, the grid serves as a flexible suggestion: thus this simple pattern becomes less stubborn on a compositional level and is thereby freed from its connotative roles as formal rubric and conceptual cage.
