This workshop is held in conjunction with the “STUDIOS” exhibition on view in the Crosstown Arts East Gallery.
Utilizing fabric, paper, paint, and other provided materials, participants will create art pieces inspired by Keiko Gonzalez’s abstractions on view in “STUDIOS.” These pieces will be showcased in a pop-up gallery at the end of the exhibition.
Crosstown Arts resident artists Carl E. Moore, S. Erin Batiste, Adriana Monsalve, Robert Goodman, and Zaire Love will discuss their work in a Pecha Kucha-style artist talk.
The Crosstown Arts residency program offers multidisciplinary residencies to visiting and Memphis-based artists and curators, working in any creative discipline including visual and performing arts, music, film, and writing in all genres.

Students will be given samples of writing , and then they’ll create a piece of visual art that represents or reflects that writing sample. Participants will use will use watercolor, colored pencil, crumpled paper, wood, fabric, and paint to create 2D or 3D works. The Crosstown Jazz Series, presented by Strictly Jazz Entertainment in collaboration with Crosstown Arts, is designed to salute classic jazz music as contemporary musicians perform the work of the legends.
Inspired by the work of Joey Slaughter, participants will engage in a conversation about controversial topics before spending 10 minutes creating visual representations of how the conversation affected them via drawings of wavelengths.
