As an African-American man from Memphis, TN, Richard Jamal Echols has a genuine interest in everyday people in his community and highlights their ways of life through his work. He uses his art to promote a positive narrative of his community to combat the negative stereotypes oftentimes portrayed through various forms of media. The visual qualities of his artwork can be described as narrative paintings that depict African-American figures interacting within a diverse range of environments.
“I believe it is my duty as an artist to create work that challenges the assumptions of the viewer.”
Brandon Blvd’s objective is to empower the voiceless, encourage the downtrodden, and motivate the underdog through music, art, and soul. Brandon has a focus and mission of expanding the confines and depths of societal norms by embracing and experimenting with hip-hop.
“Some yearn to share the same lanes as others. I dared to travel down my own Blvd.”
