    Crosstown Arts announces its spring 2023 arts programming — “Deceive the Heavens to Cross the Seas” by McLean Fahnestock, “Edgewise: Exploring Pattern and Rhythm with Line” by Khara Woods, “Entrances, Exits and the Spaces Betwixt” by Tangela Mathis, and “Color Thread” by Carl Fox.

    The opening reception is scheduled for Friday, April 21, 6-8 p.m. The exhibitions run from Saturday, April 22, through Sunday, August 6.

    ICEBERG New Music, Blueshift Ensemble, and acclaimed poet Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz present "The Peace Chronicles (Part 1)," an evening of music and spoken word focused on finding peace in a violent and chaotic world. Blueshift Ensemble will perform works by Drake Andersen, Victor Baéz, Stephanie Boyd, Haralobos Stafylakis, Yu-Chun Chien, and Johnny MacMillan. Dr. Sealey-Ruiz will read from her recent book "The Peace Chronicles."

    The Fourth Wall blends music, theater, dance, and acrobatics into a new hybrid art form. This trio of musicians creates new interdisciplinary works and reinterprets classic repertoire to make music that leaps off the stage. On Saturday, January 29, The Fourth Wall presents their one-of-a-kind family-friendly variety show, Fruit Flies Like a Banana, in the East Atrium at Crosstown Arts.

    Blueshift Ensemble is a Memphis-based contemporary chamber music ensemble dedicated to bringing artists and audiences together through artistic collaboration. Founded by composer Alex Burtzos in 2016, ICEBERG new music is a collective of ten young composers based in New York City.

    Students, ages 12-18, spent four weeks in the Color Wheel after-school workshop creating artwork inspired by Color Schemes: The Value of Intensity, on view in the Crosstown Arts West Gallery. Come see their work on view in a pop-up gallery in the Crosstown Arts East Atrium. Free and open to the public.

    Join us for a jazz tribute to American jazz pianist and vocalist Nat King Cole featuring Kennard Farmer (vocals), Carl Caspersen (bass), Darryl Sanford (piano), Jonathan Bass (guitar), and Mike Assad (drums). The Crosstown Jazz Series, presented by Strictly Jazz Entertainment in collaboration with Crosstown Arts, is designed to salute classic jazz music as contemporary musicians perform the work of the legends.

    Crosstown Arts resident artists Myung Gyn You, Sandra Jackson-Opoku, Isabel Theselius, Kelley Anderson, and Alex Greene will discuss their work in artist talks. The Crosstown Arts residency program offers multidisciplinary residencies to visiting and Memphis-based artists and curators, working in any creative discipline including visual and performing arts, music, film, and writing in all genres.
