Vania Barraza (she/her)
Vania Barraza is Professor of Spanish. Her research focuses on Latin American literature and culture, with a particular emphasis on film, gender, and sexuality studies. She is the author El cine en Chile (2018), a book that studies contemporary Chilean cinema, and {ln)subordinadas (2010) a book centered on Latin American women’s writing. In collaboration with Maria Helena Rueda, she co-edited Female Agency in Films Made by Latin American Women” (2024). Additionally, she co-edited Chilean Film in the Twenty-First Century World (2020) with Carl Fischer. Currently, she is exploring the female gaze, aesthetic trends, and visual practices as represented in films directed by Chilean women filmmakers.
