Sharon Havelka
Sharon Havelka was born in Memphis, TN, and graduated with a BFA from Memphis College of Art in 1994. She received her registered nurse licensure in 2009, and she currently works as an ICU RN at the Veterans Administration. She has a history of painting, mixed-media construction, wood work, and bookmaking but is currently focused on mixed-media quilting. She received the ArtsAccelerator Grant in 2019, and her work has been exhibited in such shows as the Dixon Memphis 2021, Quilt National ’21, Art Quilt Elements, 62nd Delta Exhibition, and SAQA 3D Expressions.
“As both an artist and a nurse, I combine the physiology of the human body and brain with the elements and meanings of art, transforming recycled materials and found objects into art that evoke both the imaginary and the biological fusing craft, science, and art.”
