Myung Gyun You

Myung Gyun You is a Korean sculptor and installation artist currently based in a farmhouse in Nebraska. He earned a BFA from Busan University and an MFA from Tama Art University in Tokyo.

Since 2013, Myung has been living and traveling in the US. Using natural materials, he creates site-specific, large-scale installations, sculptural works, and paintings and does experimental projects that address geological history and the intersection between humans and nature. His most recent work incorporates soil collected from various regions in the US. He has had solo exhibitions in Goyang Art Studio of National Museum and Purdue University and several group exhibitions at Saatchi Gallery, Clayarch Gimhae Museum, Busan Metropolitan Art Museum, Weatherspoon Museum, and Socrates Sculpture Park, among others. “I began to treasure pieces of the land I was witnessing by collecting soil samples from each place I visited. My work has begun to encompass this search and collecting. With my collection process, I am investigating time travel between human form and geological form.”
