Kristin McWharter

Kristin McWharter is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work uses everyday objects and experiences, like party decorations, balloons, and childhood games to interrogate the relationship between competition and intimacy. Integrating novel and emerging technologies within immersive sculptural installations and viewer-inclusive performances, Kristin’s work imagines new and alternative forms of social behaviors and relationships.

“As an artist, I am often the slippery tongued hypnotist. A puppet master, a ring leader, a showman who wields spectacle and mesmer as tools to sedate and entertain. The lust to participate, to perform, or to escalate the intensity of the encounter are experiences my audiences know well. An elation dripping in irony and hinging on this subtle power play between performer and audience, a giddy toying with subjectivities.”
