Joey Slaughter

Joey Slaughter’s colorful, sculptural wall pieces acknowledge the busyness of our lives and explore the acts of sending and receiving of information between individuals. He creates abstractions from conversations, morphing the iconic speech bubble into waves of sound and silence using layers of wood and bursts of color.

Earning his BFA from Memphis College of Art and his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Joey  was awarded the Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA Grant. Currently based in Ruston, LA, Joey exhibits throughout the US and is an Associate Professor of Art at Louisiana Tech University.

“I see my works as explosions of thoughts, snippets of conversations, weavings of words and lyrics – a visualization of communication.”
