Cheng “Technica” Xiong

Cheng Xiong grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, and received his Bachelors of Art in Dance at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities; though he began his artistic journey as a street dancer. He is currently a company member of Black Label Movement. He recently worked with other professional companies such STRONGmovement, BRKFST Dance, and Minnesota Timberwolves’s First Avenue Breakers. Alongside his repertoire of performances, Xiong is a Breakdance instructor and educator, teaching full time as a Teaching Specialist at the University of Minnesota Theater and Dance Program and as an instructor at Cypher Side Dance School.


This residency is supported by Artist Communities Alliance’s (ACA) McKnight Artist Residencies Consortium. This partnership between ACA and the McKnight Foundation supports selected residency program partners in developing fair and just policies, and provides McKnight Artist Fellows with residency opportunities at these partner programs. This consortium aims to support the development of residency environments where any artist can thrive.
