Baishui
Baishui was born in a small Sichuanese city and is a self-taught, multi-instrumental, award-winning composer who is a master of many traditional Chinese instruments. His compositions and performance roam through neo-folk and dark/ambient music to experimental and contemporary sounds. Though he is influenced by his background, Baishui crafts intelligent and creative music unlike anything being made in his homeland. He was the first Chinese composer from mainland China to receive the Best Film Music Album at the 16th Chinese Music Media Awards for his soundtrack for director Cao Baoping’s award-winning movie The Dead End.
His current project, Sound in Motion, is a collaborative project with artists from around the world. He is exploring lighter sounds with a minimalist approach using electronics in improvisational and experimental ways, underlaid with an oriental core.
Since relocating to the United States in 2017 Baishui has released three albums and one EP: My Town, A Songbook for You, Their Paradise and That Fisherman is Dead.
“As an Asian composer, I play and compose a lot of music full of oriental spirit and tradition but I have always been inspired by contemporary art. It is the real core of my work.”
