“The Vanilla Extract© Series was established in 2002 as a catalyst for examining the infrastructural practices of racial representation by print media corporations. As found images are collected, they are then altered with the removal of Caucasian people. This practice works to illustrate the vast disparity in the visual representation of People of Color and highlights the notions created by systemic racism as practiced by print media corporations. The Vanilla Extract© Series works to visually define the endemic nature of racial bias.”
