Salo Pallini began as a four-piece instrumental group from Memphis, TN, built around an unusual idea: create a musical accompaniment to Kurt Vonnegut’s 1959 novel The Sirens of Titan. The result was The Sirens of Titan: A Preemptive Scoring, an 11-song debut recorded in the historic home of renowned Civil War historian Shelby Foote. The record established the band’s self-described sound of “progressive Latin space country” and the larger concept of preemptively scoring literary works bound for the screen.
The result is both a departure from and an expansion of Salo Pallini’s original concept. The cinematic, genre-bending approach of the first record remains, but the addition of vocalists opens the band’s music into something broader — a record where the sound of Salo Pallini remains the constant, while a different voice takes the lead with each song.
