You will get to know who JOHNNY GUITAR is in this movie, but you won’t really care — because the story in JOHNNY GUITAR is rightfully and solidly fixed on the hatred between Vienna, played by Joan Crawford, and Emma Small, played by Mercedes McCambridge. The two actresses notoriously hated each other in real life and the tension between the two seeps onto the screen. JOHNNY GUITAR is ostensibly a Western about a saloon owner (Crawford) balancing her relationship with her local customers and out-of-towner railroad men and possible outlaws versus a local (McCambridge) who wants nothing more than to stir up trouble. JOHNNY GUITAR was a favorite of Shinji Aoyama, Pedro Almodovar, Jean-Luc Godard and Francis Truffaut.

The Crosstown Arthouse Film Series showcases a diverse collection of independent, international, historically significant, artistic, experimental, cult, underground and documentary features.
