Stacy Kranitz

Working within the documentary tradition, Stacy Kranitz makes photographs that acknowledge the limits of photographic representation. Born in Kentucky, Kranitz currently lives in the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Tennessee. This summer she will present her work at Les Rencontres de la Photografie in Arles, France.  In the fall, her first monograph of photographs will be published by Twin Palms.

“My documentary photographs do not claim to be authoritative. They do not illustrate a certain type of injustice in hopes of remedying it. Instead my work opens up a new kind of narrative that examines our understanding of culture and place in a way that is poised between notions of right and wrong.”
