Stephen Deusner (he/him)

A Tennessee native now living in Indiana, Stephen Deusner is a music journalist whose work has appeared in Uncut magazine, Pitchfork, the New York Times, the Oxford American, Spin, and the Country Music Hall of Fame. He studies southern music through the lens of place and community, which informed his first book, Where the Devil Don’t Stay: Traveling the South with the Drive-By Truckers. He is also the author of Garth Brooks in… the Life of Chris Gaines (part of the 33 1/3 series) and has penned liner notes for Pylon, the International Submarine Band, the Pernice Brothers, and the Drive-By Truckers. He is currently at work on an alternative history of Memphis music that covers the last 50 years of punk, new wave, hip-hop, and blues.
