“But Then, Suddenly, I Was Looking From the Inside Out” is about “no compartments.” Everything is mashing together in life all the time — and while Lapossy longs for stability and order — it’s all happening at once and they love how that feels — what that allows for. Not to be confused with multitasking, this is a kind of nurtured chaos.

Current exhibiting artists Khara Woods and Tangela Mathis will discuss their work, processes, and influences. It’s a chance to get a special glimpse behind the curtain and better understand the art and the artists.

The key to Pecha Kucha is the 20×20 format: all presenters show 20 slides for 20 seconds each, making each presentation concise and dynamic. If you’re wondering what “Pecha Kucha” means, it draws its name from the Japanese term for the sound of “chit chat.”

Join Crosstown Arts and Indie Memphis for an evening with our new Memphis-based Brazilian filmmaker, cinematographer, and colorist Ivan Rodrigues.

Ivan will discuss several aspects of filmmaking from an unique perspective of having worked in Brazil, Los Angeles, and now Memphis. He will also share his secrets on how to simulate a “film look” in digital cameras, why film is actually dead, and how to produce a high-quality image when operating with a low budget.

The students and faculty from The Memphis Jazz Workshop present The Music from the Hard-Bop Years (1955-1965). Featuring the music of jazz artists, such as Lee Morgan, Art Blakey, Herbie Hancock, Joe Henderson, Cannonball Adderley, Bobby Timmons, Wayne Shorter, and more.

This event is chaired by jazz pianist and educator Stephen Lee. Featuring Stephen Lee (piano), Gary Topper (tenor sax), Johnny Yancey (trumpet), Tyler Cain (acoustic bass), and Nygel Yancey (drums).

Artist Lester Merriweather will discuss his work in Every American Thing, on view in the Crosstown Arts East Atrium through March 10.
