DESCRIPTION:Monthly filmmaking forum presented by Indie Memphis and Crosstown Arts. \nJoin Indie Memphis & Crosstown Arts for a very special Shoot & Splice: An Evening with Graham Gordy. Mr. Gordy is perhaps best known as the creator and executive producer of the partially shot and Memphis-set Cinemax series Quarry. Hear from Graham about his experiences in making the series and working as a writer in the so-called “golden age of television\,” as well as how he’s gone about making a career for himself while still calling the South his home. \nGraham Gordy completed his M.F.A. in Dramatic Writing at NYU where he received the Goldberg Award for Playwriting. His plays have been produced and performed by Naked Angels\, The New Group\, New York Stage and Film\, The Drama Dept.\, and The Royal Court (London). He was a writer for the Sundance series Rectify and was co-creator and executive producer of the Cinemax drama Quarry. He was a writer\, producer\, and actor in the upcoming independent feature Antiquities and is currently writing for the third season of True Detective. \nDoors open at 6:30pm | discussion begins at 7pm | Free and open to the public Complimentary beverages will be available.

On view through Sept. 9. \n\nWinterburn\, granddaughter of famed Delta photographer Harris Barnes\, holds a BFA from the University of Tennessee. Her work in bold\, gestural brush strokes and minimalist detail has built a strong following. Very mathmatical in approach \, her work is an exploration in control. \nKat Gore is a graduate of Memphis College of Art with years of experience working in the interior design industry while creating her unique approach to mixed media painting. She has had many shows and continues to find fresh inspiration. \nLisa Smith Williamson holds and BFA and MFA from Memphis College of Art and is in the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts. When not painting or studying\, she is working to create The Junkyard Memphis interactive art museum. \nJanet Stuart Smith’s notable work has included scenes of Paris\, Venice\, downtown Memphis\, and her family’s beloved Justine’s. Ever nimble her recent work is lighter\, florals or abstracts in watercolor. Her work is widely collected in homes and businesses.

DESCRIPTION:Facilitator: Richard Lou\nPresenting Artist(s): Elizabeth Alley\, Julie Nouwen\, Paula Kovarik\, Danielle Sierra \n\n\n\n\nCrosstown Arts’ Open Crit series is a monthly critique event where visual artists are invited to bring new and/or in-progress studio work for critical feedback and group discussion particular to each artist’s practice. \nA dedicated facilitator with experience in a group critique setting will guide discussion for each critique event\, which will include up to 4 artists’ work\, with 15-25 minutes devoted to the work of each. \nAll visual artists and anyone interested in joining the discussion are welcome to participate regardless of their level of expertise\, prior professional art experience or background/education in fine art. Participation is free and open to the public. Input during the critiques from everyone in attendance is welcomed and encouraged. \nNo formal preparation is necessary for participating artists\, who will have an opportunity to introduce and contextualize their work on view at the beginning of each critique. Participating artists are only asked to be open to (and interested in) considering reactions to their work by the group\, which will always be done in a supportive\, constructive and casual environment\, but could at the same time be challenging. \nSpecial thanks to Art Center for donating a $25 gift certificate for each participating artist. \n\nTo participate\, artists can sign up here: \nOpen Crit Request form \n  \nContact Mary Jo at maryjo@crosstownarts.org with any questions!  \nArtists are asked to bring no more than 8 individual pieces (in any medium).
