SUMMARY:Time\, Marks\, a Journey
DESCRIPTION:The art of Norman Soskel\, Judith Barrie and Mary K. VanGieson presented by BluesWax \nArtists Talk: March 26\, 2 pm\nGallery Hours: March 26\, 12-6 pm \nJudith Barrie  is an artist\, educator\, pet lover living in Germantown\, TN \nJudith received her BS in English from the University of Southern Connecticut and her MS in Media from Radford University. She taught English in Connecticut\, Virginia\, Utah\, and Tennessee. She studied drawing and painting in Spain\, Italy\, at the University of Tennessee\, and bookmaking with Maritza Davila. She studied encaustic with David Clark\, Gregory Wright\, Laura Moriarty\, Nancy Natale\, Lisa Pressman\, and Deborah Winiarski among others. Her works focus on line and mark making portraying both nature and inner feelings and often are based on historical classical patterns combined with the natural landscape. She has exhibited around the country and won a scholarship to attend the 10th annual International Encaustic Conference in Provincetown\, MA. \nNorman Soskel  is an artist\, physician (pulmonologist)\, pianist\, former spelunker living in Germantown\, TN \nNorman received his BA and MD from the University of Virginia\, pulmonary fellowship from the University of Utah. He taught and did research in the pulmonary divisions of the Universities of Utah and Tennessee. His photographic interests began at age 5 with help from his photographer father and studied piano with Harold Protsman in Norfolk\, VA. He studied encaustic painting techniques from David Clark\, Paula Roland\, Stacy Spadafora\, Lisa Pressman and many others. He studied printmaking techniques with Wayne Simpkins and Maritza Davila. His current works combine printmaking techniques\, photography and encaustic painting. He has exhibited around the country and won awards in international\, national and local venues. Currently\, he is represented by Jay Etkin\, in Memphis\, TN. \nMary K. VanGieson is an artist\, educator\, storyteller and sometime writer. She lives and works in Memphis\, TN. \nMary K. received her BAE from Oklahoma State University and her MFA from the University of Memphis. She is an adjunct instructor at the Memphis College of Art. Her work encompasses drawing\, encaustic and oil with cold wax painting\, book arts and alternative media sculpture and has been exhibited throughout the United States. \nAbout BluesWax\nArtists from the Memphis\, TN metropolitan area have joined together to form an organization called BluesWax to foster and promote visual art which incorporates wax in painting. The BluesWax mission is to give visual artists an opportunity to exchange ideas\, participate in group exhibits and benefit from educational programs. BluesWax provides an interactive community for both established\, emerging artists and art patrons with an emphasis on education\, group creative sessions and peer critiques.

DESCRIPTION:Join Memphis Pets Alive! for our second annual silent art auction at Crosstown Arts\, located at 430 N. Cleveland St. in Midtown Memphis. The event kicks off at 6pm with a $12.00 cover getting you in the door. Artists who have generously donated their work to our auction get in free! Light refreshments will be provided and alcohol will be served to our 21+ guests. We have had many local and some not-so-local amazing artists donate works to Art Unleashed and we cannot wait to share them with you! Bidding begins at 6pm and ends at 8pm sharp!
