But a neighborhood is given meaning by its inhabitants\, the people whose lives enmesh to tell a story and create a sense of place. Here All Along is a collaborative exhibition featuring works from several artists living and/or working in the Klondike Smokey City\, New Chicago and Crosstown neighborhoods. \nThe show’s works are expressions of individual experiences\, but together they conjure notions of everyday life in these communities. Cleveland\nSecond Tuesday of Each Month\nArtist Setup: 5 – 6 pm / Critique & Discussion: 6 – 8 pm \nCrosstown Arts’ Open Crit series\, organized in partnership with ArtsMemphis\, is a monthly critique event where visual artists are invited to bring new and/or in-progress studio work for critical feedback and group discussion particular to each artist’s practice. The series will take place at Crosstown Arts exhibition space at 430 N. Cleveland. \nA dedicated facilitator with experience in a group critique setting will guide discussion for each critique event\, which will include up to 4 artists’ work\, with 15-25 minutes devoted to the work of each. \nAll visual artists and anyone interested in joining the discussion are welcome to participate regardless of their level of expertise\, prior professional art experience or background/education in fine art. Participation is free and open to the public. Input during the critiques from everyone in attendance is welcomed and encouraged. \nNo formal preparation is necessary for participating artists\, who will have an opportunity to introduce and contextualize their work on view at the beginning of each critique. Participating artists are only asked to be open to (and interested in) considering reactions to their work by the group\, which will always be done in a supportive\, constructive and casual environment\, but could at the same time be challenging. \n\nTo participate\, artists can send the following info via email to Brittney Bullock (brittney@ crosstownarts.org) with the subject line “Open Crit.” Submissions will be accepted and scheduled based on availability. She is currently developing a TV show from the story. Shaw graduated from Barnard College of Columbia University with a degree in literature\, then moved to Los Angeles where she currently lives. Shaw first received recognition acting in the completely improvised Sundance film The Freebie and then as the oddball drunken cheerleader in the sitcom Blue Mountain State. \nOBJECT: Paulina Skibińska\, born in 1987 in Kowary\, near Jelenia Góra\, Poland\, graduated from the Post-Secondary Studio of Culture Animation in Wrocław in 2009. She earned her M.A. degree in screenwriting at the Łódź Film School (2014)\, where she is now pursuing her Ph.D. studies. OBJECT isher first film as director. Being a screenwriter of numerous internationally awarded short fiction and animated films\, including http://\, The Kiss and 48hTV\, Paulina is presently at work on her full-length fiction debut film. \nSTORM HITS JACKET: Born in Brest in 1985\, Paul Cabon is a French director and animator. After a course in applied arts at Estienne (Paris)\, he attended ESAAT in Roubaix where he graduated in animation. Between 2007 and 2009 he studied at La Poudrière in Valence\, where he directed Sauvage\, which won the special student film prize in the Annecy festival in 2010. He has worked as an animator\, scriptwriter and background artist and character designer for the series Michel at Folimage and as an illustrator in various fanzines. \nOH LUCY!: Atsuko Hirayanagi was born in Nagano and raised in Chiba\, Japan. She is a recent graduate of NYU Tisch School of The Arts\, Asia with an MFA in Film Production\, where she received the Cathay Scholarship from Singapore’s Cathay Organization. Her short films have played at numerous film festivals\, including Clermont-Ferrand and Tokyo Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia\, where her MFA 2nd year project\, Mō Ikkai\, won the Grand Prix as well as the Japan Competition Best Short (Governor of Tokyo Award) and the Audience awards. Atsuko is currently developing a feature script of Oh Lucy! \nTHE FACE OF UKRAINE: CASTING OKSANA BAIUL: Kitty Green is an award-winning Australian filmmaker. In 2012\, Kitty moved to her grandmother’s native Ukraine to shoot with the protest movement ‘Femen’. Her abduction by the KGB made headlines internationally. Her feature documentary\, Ukraine Is Not A Brothel screened at the Venice Film Festival\, SXSW\, Hot Docs and over fifty festivals internationally. After Sundance\, The Face of Ukraine: Casting Oksana Baiul made its European premiere at the Berlin Film Festival. \nWORLD OF TOMORROW: Don Hertzfeldt is an Academy-Award nominated American animator and independent filmmaker. He is the creator of many animated films\, including It’s Such a Beautiful Day\, The Meaning of Life\, and Rejected\, and recently created a “couch gag” opening for The Simpsons. His films have received over 200 awards and have been presented around the world. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Sundance Film Festival Shorts Program\nThe Sundance Film Festival has introduced global audiences to some of the most groundbreaking films of the past three decades\, including Whiplash\,Boyhood\, Rich Hill\, Beasts of the Southern Wild\, Fruitvale Station\, Little Miss Sunshine\, sex\, lies\, and videotape\, Reservoir Dogs\, Hedwig and the Angry Inch\, An Inconvenient Truth\, Precious and Napoleon Dynamite. Each year the Festival receives more than 8\,000 short film submissions\, selecting 60-80 to show. The Festival programs a 90-minute collection of shorts from its most recent Festival to go on a theatrical tour to independent art houses in more than 50 cities nationwide. It is one of very few theatrical releases of short films in America. \nFueled by artistic expression and limited only by their runtime\, short films transcend traditional storytelling. They are a significant and popular way artists can connect with audiences. From documentary to animation\, narrative to experimental\, the abbreviated form is no longer just for the novice. Shorts have and will continue to be an important part of cinema\, storytelling\, and culture. The Festival has always treated short films with the highest regard and gives a home to new (and old) projects for audiences to discover and celebrate. \nThe Festival’s Short Film Program has long been established as a place to discover talented directors\, such as past alums Wes Anderson\, Todd Haynes\, Nicole Holofcener\, Spike Jonze\, Paul Thomas Anderson\, Lynne Ramsay\, David O. SUMMARY:XO: Collaborative Works by Chloe York & Eric Quick
DESCRIPTION:Artists’ Statement \nWithin our individual works\, we explore the metaphor of the exoskeleton in its relation to the human practice of camouflage and self-defense. We wished to combine this shared interest in a collaborative series of mixed media paintings and sculptural installation. These works depict creatures that physically possess exoskeletons of their own. \nThis series\, entitled XO is a play on the push and pull between abstraction and realism\, each artist using his and her individual strengths to create a fully formed\, cohesive creature with a disconnect in visual styles.

Cleveland\nSecond Tuesday of Each Month\nArtist Setup: 5 – 6 pm / Critique & Discussion: 6 – 8 pm \nCrosstown Arts’ Open Crit series\, organized in partnership with ArtsMemphis\, is a monthly critique event where visual artists are invited to bring new and/or in-progress studio work for critical feedback and group discussion particular to each artist’s practice. The series will take place at Crosstown Arts exhibition space at 430 N. Cleveland. \nA dedicated facilitator with experience in a group critique setting will guide discussion for each critique event\, which will include up to 4 artists’ work\, with 15-25 minutes devoted to the work of each. \nAll visual artists and anyone interested in joining the discussion are welcome to participate regardless of their level of expertise\, prior professional art experience or background/edu- cation in fine art. Participation is free and open to the public. SUMMARY:Perpetual Discourse
DESCRIPTION:Artists’ Statements \nTori Cooper \nCurrently\, my artwork focuses on the cultural\, emotional and psychological connection to physical items and the process of repetitive action. We endlessly attach emotional significance to physical items. The item then comes to represent something greater and more powerful than a simple disposable object. The item becomes a tangible extension of emotions and memory. Thus\, the mind and the spirit alike have great difficulty relinquishing these items of personal significance. \nThe series consists of interwoven reeds into 6″x6″ canvases. The movement of the reeds is seamless\, having truly no end or beginning\, but the direction of each reed changes. Some move rapidly in a whipping motion. While other pieces in the series are fluid and subtle and others cradling and protective. Each piece represents an emotional state of being present during the creation of the piece. Thus\, the series seamlessly connects the artist\, the viewer and the expressed emotional state of being in the piece. \nTrevor Simpson  \nIn this series I have set out to manipulate the plasticity of composition and form in unexpected arrangements. I allow for the viewer to be engaged in the compositional formulation of each piece. The viewer’s eye and imagination is left free to play within the negative and positive space of each piece. Thematically the series is a process-based exploration of form as well as a 2d interpretation of Tori Cooper’s 3d assemblages. \nUltimately\, the pieces in the series create a collective lexicon of seemingly disparate arrangements. The series is a commentary on synchronicity and aligning what on the surface may appear to be fragmented.
