DESCRIPTION:Crosstown Arts’ Open Crit series is a monthly critique event where visual artists are invited to bring new and/or in-progress studio work for critical feedback and group discussion particular to each artist’s practice. \n\n\nA dedicated facilitator with experience in a group critique setting will guide discussion for each critique event\, which will include up to 4 artists’ work\, with 15-25 minutes devoted to the work of each. \nAll visual artists and anyone interested in joining the discussion are welcome to participate regardless of their level of expertise\, prior professional art experience or background/education in fine art. Participation is free and open to the public. Input during the critiques from everyone in attendance is welcomed and encouraged. \nNo formal preparation is necessary for participating artists\, who will have an opportunity to introduce and contextualize their work on view at the beginning of each critique. Participating artists are only asked to be open to (and interested in) considering reactions to their work by the group\, which will always be done in a supportive\, constructive and casual environment\, but could at the same time be challenging. \nSpecial thanks to Art Center Supply Store for donating a $25 gift certificate for each participating artist. \n\nTo participate\, artists can sign up here: \nOpen Crit Request form \n  \nContact Mary Jo at maryjo@crosstownarts.org with any questions!  \nArtists are asked to bring no more than 8 individual pieces (in any medium). DESCRIPTION:Art exhibition featuring new work by Noah Miller \nThis series of work was made by Miller during a season of treatment and recovery during chemotherapy. He self labels this as “not my best artwork\, but necessary for the process and for the mind\, a self catharsis in a way.” \nBy placing this artwork out of his mind and having it published\, he plans to move forward in life and with his work. This is a celebration of life in addition to an exhibition of thought. Projections\, photography\, poetry\, and collages were made as a way to not let his hands or mind be idle during the process of treatment.

The following night\, Restaurant Iris will be recreating the decadent\, classic French seven-course menu featured in the film. DESCRIPTION:Indie Memphis presents a screening of Roll Red Roll. \nAt a pre-season football party in small-town Steubenville\, Ohio\, a heinous crime took place: the assault of a teenage girl by members of the beloved high school football team. What transpired would garner national attention and result in the sentencing of two key offenders. \nBut it was the disturbing social media evidence uncovered online by crime blogger Alex Goddard that provoked the most powerful questions about the case and about the collusion of teen bystanders\, teachers\, parents\, and coaches to protect the assailants and discredit the victim. \nAs it painstakingly reconstructs the night of the crime and its aftermath\, Roll Red Roll uncovers the engrained rape culture at the heart of the incident\, acting as a cautionary tale about what can happen when teenage social media bullying runs rampant and adults look the other way. The film unflinchingly asks: “Why didn’t anyone stop it?” \nFeaturing a talkback panel with Memphis Area Women’s Council following the film. \nTrigger warning for details of real-life sexual assault. A counselor will be on site provided by Memphis Area Women’s Council.

Your thoughts and emotions will be taken on a rollercoaster ride as you explore the artist’s heart toward the inner beauty and outward struggles of women through art. \nThis art exhibition focuses on the growing process that life forces everyone to take part in and the bumps along the way. Yet\, just as a phoenix from the ashes\, we will rise above in victory into true prosperity. Three stages of metamorphosis will be visually displayed: being brokenhearted\, mending from life’s turmoils\, and being restored emotionally and mentally. \nAcrylic and oil paintings by the artist will be displayed and available for purchase. Additional merchandise and services will also be available. \nOn view:\nThursday\, June 20\, 5-8 pm\nFriday\, June 21\, 5-10 pm\nSaturday\, June 22\, 4-10 pm \nAbout the artist:\nAndreia Pherneatress attended Fisk University and Memphis College of Art. She has been in solo and collaborative shows in Memphis and Nashville. DESCRIPTION:Crosstown Arts’ Open Crit series is a monthly critique event where visual artists are invited to bring new and/or in-progress studio work for critical feedback and group discussion particular to each artist’s practice. \nFacilitator:  Kimberly Jacobs\nPresenting artists: Cassi Rebman\, Eric Painter\, Sophia Mason\, and Mia Richardson \nA dedicated facilitator with experience in a group critique setting will guide discussion for each critique event\, which will include up to 4 artists’ work\, with 15-25 minutes devoted to the work of each. \nAll visual artists and anyone interested in joining the discussion are welcome to participate regardless of their level of expertise\, prior professional art experience or background/education in fine art. Participation is free and open to the public. Input during the critiques from everyone in attendance is welcomed and encouraged. \nNo formal preparation is necessary for participating artists\, who will have an opportunity to introduce and contextualize their work on view at the beginning of each critique. Participating artists are only asked to be open to (and interested in) considering reactions to their work by the group\, which will always be done in a supportive\, constructive and casual environment\, but could at the same time be challenging. \nSpecial thanks to Art Center Supply Store for donating a $25 gift certificate for each participating artist. \n\nTo participate\, artists can sign up here: \nOpen Crit Request form \n  \nContact Mary Jo at maryjo@crosstownarts.org with any questions!  \nArtists are asked to bring no more than 8 individual pieces (in any medium).
