SUMMARY:Crosstown Arts Film Series Presents: Black Christmas
DESCRIPTION:As Christmas break begins\, the women of a university sorority house receive a series of increasingly disturbing telephone calls. When one of their friends disappears\, the remaining students begin to suspect that the danger may be much closer than anyone realizes. Directed by Bob Clark\, Black Christmas helped establish many of the conventions that would later define the slasher film. Its shadowy cinematography\, unsettling sound design\, and relentless sense of isolation make it one of the most influential and unnerving holiday horror films ever made. \n  \nTickets

It will be another unforgettable evening of songs\, stories\, symphonic sounds\, and shenanigans. Quick-witted and empathetic\, aloof but probably alert of the room tone\, most folks will find themselves compatible with Mark Edgar Stuart. His musicality and honest voice showcase a resilient and relaxed artist\, both sage and seasoned. John Prine even admiringly referred to him as the “Remote Control Guy” when they met\, a nod of approval for one of Stuart’s signature songs. Grammy-winning music writer/director Robert Gordon is a big fan\, often spinning Mark’s tracks on his weekly radio show\, and other critics agree: “His acerbic wit is reminiscent of Randy Newman” (No Depression); “Always maintaining a tender demeanor\, his songwriting is smart as it is sincere” (Pop Matters); “His wry\, cutting view of the world makes something old new again”

DESCRIPTION:Salo Pallini: “Some Air” Record Release Show\nThe Crosstown Arts Theater\nFriday\, December 11th\, 2026\nDoors open at 6:30 pm | Show starts at 7:30 pm\n$20 in advance (plus fees) | $30 at the door\nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE\n\nSalo Pallini isn’t particularly interested in making the same record twice. \nFor their second album\, Some Air\, the Memphis band has assembled an extraordinary cast of guest singers\, with a different voice taking the lead on every song. Elliott Ives\, Marcella Simien\, Bailey Bigger\, Walt Phelan\, Jeremy Stanfill\, Grant Beatty\, Ben Canady\, Sarah Spain\, and more join the band\, each bringing something entirely their own to Salo Pallini’s music. \nThis performance brings that idea to the stage\, gathering all of the voices from Some Air for one night. It’s a rare chance to hear this group of Memphis artists in the same room\, backed by a band whose music was built specifically around what each singer does best. \nSome Air represents a deliberate departure. Where the debut had no words\, the new record puts them front and center. Rather than choosing a single front person\, Salo Pallini built each song around the character of its guest vocalist\, allowing the record—and this performance—to move through different voices\, personalities and corners of Memphis music while still sounding unmistakably like Salo Pallini.

SUMMARY:"Holiday Extravaganza" : Jeff Hulett & The Hand Me Downs feat. Me & Leah
DESCRIPTION:“Holiday Extravaganza” : Jeff Hulett & The Hand Me Downs feat. Me & Leah\nThe Green Room at Crosstown Arts\nFriday\, December 18th\, 2026\nDoors open at 7:00 pm | Show begins at 7:30 pm\n$18 in advance (plus fees) | $25 at the door\nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE  \n\nJoin us for an unforgettable evening of songs and stories as Jeff Hulett & The Hand Me Downs play songs from their forthcoming record Your Help is Hurting. Joining them for a micro set will be Me & Leah backed by the Hand Me Downs. Other special guests to be announced and don’t be surprised if the band plays some Christmas classics. This show is all ages and not to be missed.\ \n\nJEFF HULETT\nFrom the outside\, Jeff Hulett might seem like a late-blooming guitarist and songwriter. But if you ask any of his fellow musicians they’ll tell you he was writing songs and playing music long before he put pen to paper or strummed a chord.\nHis unique style landed him in the band Snowglobe. Over his many years with this Memphis-based institution\, Hulett regularly contributed melodies\, lyrics and arrangements to many of the tunes in their prolific cannon. You can even hear a few of his originals in their discography.\nDuring his long tenure with Snowglobe\, Hulett continued to hone his own voice and develop his own creative projects. He began playing guitar more\, and writing his own lyrics. This dedication and passion led to his collaboration with Leah Keys in the band Me & Leah. They released an eponymous and beautiful CD in 2016 featuring nine original folk tunes. Then in 2019\, Me & Leah added Jonathan Schallert to the mix to record and partially release a digital copy of their 7 inch Most of Your Life. Both albums were engineered by accomplished mainstays Toby Vest and Pete Mathews of High/Low and Andrew McCalla\, respectively.\nBut it was when the pandemic struck that Hulett really hit his stride as a songwriter. All alone and with nowhere to go\, using an old version of Garageband\, he started creating original tracks and collaborating with more and more musicians\, writers\, and other creators. He was one of the first artists in Memphis–or even the world–to give a voice to our collective feelings when he released his album Safe @ Home w/ Jacob Church early in the pandemic. That record–a seven-song exploration of the new normal we were all just beginning to live–resonated around the globe. It even landed a spot on The English Show\, a weekly podcast out of Basel\, Switzerland.\nThen\, after going on to release two solo albums on Small Batch Records\, Hulett reconnected with old friends Melissa Goodwin Shepherd and Adam Poor. They formed the band Restless Townies. Their first album\, Miles Away\, was released in April 2021\, and the trio has continued to release several EPs. In this outfit\, all players write and contribute to each other’s songs.\n\nFor more information\, visit smallbatchrecords.bandcamps.com. You can also follow him at dad_onarrival on Instagram\, JeffHulettMusic on Facebook and Jeff Hulett on Twitter. To hear more about his latest albums including some unreleased material\, and previous releases\, check him out on the Shangri-La Records Podcast here.

SUMMARY:Dan and Peggy Reeder
DESCRIPTION:Dan and Peggy Reeder\nCrosstown Arts Theater\nSaturday\, March 6th\, 2027\nDoors open at 6:30 pm | Show begins at 7:30 pm\nGA $35 advance (plus fees) | $45 at the door\nOrchestra $45 advance (plus fees) | $55 at the door\nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE\n\nThe cult-favorite-folk songwriter Dan Reeder performs alongside his angelic-voiced daughter\, Peggy Reeder\, whose voice has brought a fresh spark to his sound in their live shows these past two years. \n\nIn Fall 2024\, Reeder shared Smithereens\, an album of sharp-witted\, deeply human songs that reaffirmed his reputation as one of folk’s most original voices. After two sold-out nights in Nashville during AmericanaFest\, he and Peggy embarked on a sold-out West Coast tour that spring.\nLast summer’s spotlight came at the Newport Folk Festival\, where Reeder and Peggy joined Jack Antonoff for a surprise appearance during his Ally Coalition Talent Show set. Their heartfelt rendition of “Maybe” also featured a chorus of special guests including Waxahatchee and Weyes Blood\, adding a collaborative moment to an already star-studded evening. That guest-filled set also included unforgettable appearances by Hayley Williams\, Jeff Tweedy\, Rufus Wainwright\, Maren Morris\, and more—placing Reeder squarely in the company of some of folk and indie’s most revered artists.\n\nSigned personally by the late John Prine\, Reeder remains the longest-running artist on Oh Boy Records\, the legendary label Prine founded. With a fan base that includes Phoebe Bridgers\, Maya Hawke\, Paul Mescal\, and others\, his influence quietly extends across generations of artists and songwriters.

In The Mystic\, the world is far-better served by different beliefs than it could ever be if limited by rigid uniformity. \nAnd if this doesn’t rock your gypsy soul\, the goal of The Mystic is to not feel better but get better at feeling.
