SUMMARY:The Mystic
DESCRIPTION:So\, what is The Mystic? The Mystic is a catalyst; through music\, story\, silence and dialogue\, we hope to strengthen our attachment to hopes and dreams. In the mystic\, diversity is a prerequisite for all creativity\, which is why Crosstown Concourse is the perfect home. In The Mystic\, the world is far-better served by different beliefs than it could ever be if limited by rigid uniformity. \nAnd if this doesn’t rock your gypsy soul\, the goal of The Mystic is to not feel better but get better at feeling.

SUMMARY:Modern Jazz Masters: Rodney Jordan with the Ted Ludwig Trio
DESCRIPTION:Modern Jazz Masters: Rodney Jordan with the Ted Ludwig Trio \nThe Green Room at Crosstown Arts  \nThursday\, November 5th\, 2026  \nDoors open at 7:00 PM | Show starts at 7:30 PM \n$25 in advance (plus fees) | $30 at the door | $10 student tickets  \nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE \n\n\n\nThe Ted Ludwig trio returns to the Green Room stage for the 2026 Modern Jazz Masters series\, featuring bass great Rodney Jordan! \n\nRODNEY JORDAN\nRodney Jordan is a native of Memphis\, Tennessee where he grew up playing the bass in church and with his high school orchestra. He later studied music with Dr. London Branch\, Alvin Fielder\, and Andy Hardwick at Jackson State University in Jackson\, Mississippi. During his college years\, Jordan joined the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra where he served as Assistant Principal Bassist. After graduating\, he became Chair of the String Department at the Dougherty County Public School and served as Principal Bassist with the Albany Symphony Orchestra in Albany\, GA. Teaching has always been an important part of Mr. Jordan’s life and career. In addition to teaching strings in Dougherty County\, he also taught in the DeKalb County School Systems.\nDuring his years in Georgia\, Jordan served as a bass instructor at Darton College (part of the University System of Georgia) in Albany and at Georgia State University in Atlanta. While living in Atlanta\, Jordan became one of the city’s most active jazz bassists\, performing and recording with some of America’s finest jazz musicians\, including Marcus Printup\, Mulgrew Miller\, James Williams\, Milt Jackson\, George Coleman\, and Russell Gunn. He joined the faculty in the School of Music at Florida State University in Tallahassee\, FL in 2001 where he now holds a rank of Associate Professor of Jazz Studies. Jordan teaches jazz bass\, jazz combo playing\, music education classes\, and a jazz styles class.\n\nJordan joined the Marcus Roberts Trio in 2009. It was evident during that first official performance of the newly-formed trio at the prestigious Wigmore Hall in London that Jordan thoroughly understood Roberts’ unique trio conception. Rodney Jordan is one of the most versatile jazz bassists on the scene today. His tone is rich and soulful when he plays hauntingly beautiful phrases with the bow. Just as readily\, he plays fast virtuosic passages with apparent effortless skill. Jordan’s knowledge of harmony from his classical bass training combined with the relentless feeling of swing in his playing is a perfect fit for the powerful melodic\, blues-based\, syncopated improvisational sound of the Marcus Roberts Trio.

SUMMARY:Victory Boyd feat. opener Doll McCoy
DESCRIPTION:Victory Boyd feat. opener Doll McCoy \nThe Green Room at Crosstown Arts\nSaturday\, November 7th\, 2026\nDoors open at 7:00 PM | Show starts at 7:30 PM\n$20 in advance (plus fees) | $30 at the door\nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE\n\nA Grammy Award-winning singer\, songwriter\, and producer\, Victory Boyd has emerged as one of the most compelling artists of her generation\, blending gospel\, soul\, folk\, and spiritual reflection into a sound that feels both timeless and profoundly intimate. Opening for Boyd is Memphis’ very own singer/songwriter Doll McCoy \n\n\nVictory Boyd is a musical storyteller whose raw\, soulful and deeply spiritual songs feel like prayers. Raised in Detroit to a family of nine musicians\, her sound blends gospel\, jazz\, folk\, and R&B with cinematic atmosphere and divine intent. After performing with her siblings to New York City audiences and gaining viral recognition\, she and her family were signed by Jay-Z to Roc Nation in 2017. However\, it was clear Victory’s voice had the strength to stand on its own. \n\nHer debut solo album The Broken Instrument (2018) showcases her artistry and won her acclaim\, leading to collaborations with Kanye West (Jesus Is King) and serving as the opening act for Lauryn Hill\, among others\, on their respective tours. Her 2023 album Glory Hour merges tradition with modern textures and reflective lyrics\, proving that spiritual music doesn’t need to follow the rules to carry divine weight. Her upcoming project dives into themes of love\, grief\, and healing\, allowing her versatility as a writer to shine. With every release\, Victory pushes genre boundaries\, aiming to stir the soul and leave a lasting emotional impact. \n\n\nDoll McCoy is a singer/songwriter born and raised in Memphis\,TN. She formed her roots singing\, and directing in the church choir at Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Going on to become a student at Ridgeway Jr. High/High School\, she met her 3 sisters and together they formed the group “ADAJYO” and have been together for 17 years. With a desire to expand her artistry\, she relocated to Los Angeles\, CA from 2011-2015\, working with artists such as Raphael Saadiq and Leonna Lewis. In 2015\, she went on to work for the B.B. King Blues Club\, traveling the world aboard Holland America Cruise Lines until 2018. Now back in Memphis\, she uses all that she has learned and continues to perform in the city and create new music with ADAJYO and plans to release her own new music soon!

Spencer won the Kerrville New Folk singer/songwriter contest in 2021\, and the Songwriter Serenade contest in 2024. They’ve shared stages and tours with The Crane Wives\, David Wilcox\, Dar Williams\, Mary Gauthier\, and countless greats in the singer/songwriter community. \nTheir concerts are typically a fully solo endeavor brimming with more energy than many eight-piece bands. They are a curious blend of pastoral sobriety and nimble playfulness. A Spencer LaJoye concert isn’t exactly a worship hour\, a one-act drama\, a melodic composition masterclass\, or an unplugged emo show. But it’s never not those things. If you didn’t get the pleasure of meeting Spencer at our first Make the Yuletide Gay production\, or if you were there and you’ve been dying to hear more from them ever since\, this is your big chance! \n  \n

SUMMARY:Strictly Jazz: The Music of Betty Carter and Elvin Jones ft. Jeremy and Dermel Warren
DESCRIPTION:Strictly Jazz: The Music of Betty Carter and Elvin Jones ft. Jeremy and Dermel Warren\nThe Green Room at Crosstown Arts\nSunday\, November 15th\, 2026\nDoors open at 5:30 pm | Show begins at 6:00 pm\n$25 in advance (plus fees) | $35 at the door\nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE \nJoin us for November’s installment of Strictly Jazz Entertainment’s “Strictly Jazz” Series as NYC-based duo Jeremy and Dermel Warren tackle the music of Betty Carter and Elvin Jones! \nABOUT JD WARREN AND THE RUDIMENT\nJD Warren is a NYC based jazz group lead by husband and wife duo Jeremy & Dermel Warren. This group was formed in 2015 and has released an album June 1\, 2016 titled “Jeremy Warren-I Can Do All Things” that has received “Most Highly Recommended” from critics such as Jazz Times\, Improvijazzation Nation\, All About Jazz\, AXS\, and many others. The Rudiment has performed in some of the top venues in the NYC area such as the Blue Note NYC\, Minton’s Harlem\, Club Bonafide\, Cornelia St Café\, and many more. The Rudiment performed at the 2016 Jazz at The Buckman Center in Memphis\, TN; 2017 Katy Jazz Festival in Katy\, TX (where they also put on masterclasses for high school/college students and held workshops for high school jazz bands); Jazz in the Park in Patterson\, NJ for 3 years running; plus many more. They performed at the Made in New York Gala along side jazz greats Randy Brecker\, Fransico Mela\, and John Patituci. Drummer\, Jeremy Warren\, composes and arranges for the group while vocalist\, Dermel Warren\, handles the lyrical composition. J&D bring their deep Soul & Gospel roots mixed with NYC’s Hip-Hop & Jazz influences to create their own unique style.\nABOUT BETTY CARTER\nBetty Carter developed a legendary reputation\, along with Art Blakey\, as one of the great mentors for young jazz musicians. Equally legendary was her singing prowess\, creating a distinctive style of improvisation that could transcend any song.\nCarter’s bands served a dual purpose: to create her own great music and to help young musicians develop their craft. Many of the musicians who passed through her groups went on to lead their own groups\, such as Geri Allen\, Stephen Scott\, Don Braden\, and Christian McBride. She also developed a mentoring program called Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead through links with organizations like the International Association for Jazz Education\, 651 Arts\, and the Kennedy Center. The program was a one- to two-week teaching seminar where nationally selected promising young jazz musicians learned from Carter and other seasoned musicians\, culminating in a final concert of instructors and students together. Jazz Ahead was one of Carter’s proudest achievements\, and she worked with the program up until her death. She received the National Medal of Arts in 1997.\nABOUT ELVIN JONES\n\nElvin Jones was an American jazz drummer of the post-bop era. Most famously a member of John Coltrane’s quartet\, with whom he recorded from late 1960 to late 1965\, Jones appeared on such albums as My Favorite Things\, A Love Supreme\, Ascension and Live at Birdland. After 1966\, Jones led his own trio\, and later larger groups under the name The Elvin Jones Jazz Machine. His brothers Hank and Thad were also celebrated jazz musicians with whom he occasionally recorded. Elvin was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1995. In his The History of Jazz\, jazz historian and critic Ted Gioia calls Jones “one of the most influential drummers in the history of jazz”.

SUMMARY:Crosstown Arts Film Series Presents: Black Christmas
DESCRIPTION:As Christmas break begins\, the women of a university sorority house receive a series of increasingly disturbing telephone calls. When one of their friends disappears\, the remaining students begin to suspect that the danger may be much closer than anyone realizes. Directed by Bob Clark\, Black Christmas helped establish many of the conventions that would later define the slasher film. Its shadowy cinematography\, unsettling sound design\, and relentless sense of isolation make it one of the most influential and unnerving holiday horror films ever made.

DESCRIPTION:Mark Edgar Stuart & The Blueshift Ensemble 5th Annual Xmas Show! w/ special guests Jad Tariq & Sarah Spain\nThe Green Room at Crosstown Arts\nThursday\, December 10th\, 2026\nDoors open at 7:00 PM | Show begins at 7:30 PM\n$25 in advance (plus fees) | $35 at the door\nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE\n\nBeloved Memphis singer-songwriter\, Mark Edgar Stuart\, joins The Blueshift Ensemble once again for his 5th Annual Christmas Show! It will be another unforgettable evening of songs\, stories\, symphonic sounds\, and shenanigans. Special guests will include Jad Tariq and Sarah Spain! \n\n\nYou’ll have a tough time finding a more widely-embraced modern singer-songwriter in Memphis. Quick-witted and empathetic\, aloof but probably alert of the room tone\, most folks will find themselves compatible with Mark Edgar Stuart. His musicality and honest voice showcase a resilient and relaxed artist\, both sage and seasoned. John Prine even admiringly referred to him as the “Remote Control Guy” when they met\, a nod of approval for one of Stuart’s signature songs. Grammy-winning music writer/director Robert Gordon is a big fan\, often spinning Mark’s tracks on his weekly radio show\, and other critics agree: “His acerbic wit is reminiscent of Randy Newman” (No Depression); “Always maintaining a tender demeanor\, his songwriting is smart as it is sincere” (Pop Matters); “His wry\, cutting view of the world makes something old new again”

SUMMARY:Salo Pallini: "Some Air" Record Release Show
DESCRIPTION:Salo Pallini: “Some Air” Record Release Show\nThe Crosstown Arts Theater\nFriday\, December 11th\, 2026\nDoors open at 6:30 pm | Show starts at 7:30 pm\n$20 in advance (plus fees) | $30 at the door\nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE\n\nSalo Pallini isn’t particularly interested in making the same record twice. \nFor their second album\, Some Air\, the Memphis band has assembled an extraordinary cast of guest singers\, with a different voice taking the lead on every song. Elliott Ives\, Marcella Simien\, Bailey Bigger\, Walt Phelan\, Jeremy Stanfill\, Grant Beatty\, Ben Canady\, Sarah Spain\, and more join the band\, each bringing something entirely their own to Salo Pallini’s music. \nThis performance brings that idea to the stage\, gathering all of the voices from Some Air for one night. It’s a rare chance to hear this group of Memphis artists in the same room\, backed by a band whose music was built specifically around what each singer does best. \nSome Air represents a deliberate departure. Where the debut had no words\, the new record puts them front and center. Rather than choosing a single front person\, Salo Pallini built each song around the character of its guest vocalist\, allowing the record—and this performance—to move through different voices\, personalities and corners of Memphis music while still sounding unmistakably like Salo Pallini.

SUMMARY:"Holiday Extravaganza" : Jeff Hulett & The Hand Me Downs feat. Me & Leah
DESCRIPTION:“Holiday Extravaganza” : Jeff Hulett & The Hand Me Downs feat. Me & Leah\nThe Green Room at Crosstown Arts\nFriday\, December 18th\, 2026\nDoors open at 7:00 pm | Show begins at 7:30 pm\n$18 in advance (plus fees) | $25 at the door\nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE  \n\nJoin us for an unforgettable evening of songs and stories as Jeff Hulett & The Hand Me Downs play songs from their forthcoming record Your Help is Hurting. Joining them for a micro set will be Me & Leah backed by the Hand Me Downs. Other special guests to be announced and don’t be surprised if the band plays some Christmas classics. This show is all ages and not to be missed.\ \n\nJEFF HULETT\nFrom the outside\, Jeff Hulett might seem like a late-blooming guitarist and songwriter. But if you ask any of his fellow musicians they’ll tell you he was writing songs and playing music long before he put pen to paper or strummed a chord.\nHis unique style landed him in the band Snowglobe. Over his many years with this Memphis-based institution\, Hulett regularly contributed melodies\, lyrics and arrangements to many of the tunes in their prolific cannon. You can even hear a few of his originals in their discography.\nDuring his long tenure with Snowglobe\, Hulett continued to hone his own voice and develop his own creative projects. He began playing guitar more\, and writing his own lyrics. This dedication and passion led to his collaboration with Leah Keys in the band Me & Leah. They released an eponymous and beautiful CD in 2016 featuring nine original folk tunes. Then in 2019\, Me & Leah added Jonathan Schallert to the mix to record and partially release a digital copy of their 7 inch Most of Your Life. Both albums were engineered by accomplished mainstays Toby Vest and Pete Mathews of High/Low and Andrew McCalla\, respectively.\nBut it was when the pandemic struck that Hulett really hit his stride as a songwriter. All alone and with nowhere to go\, using an old version of Garageband\, he started creating original tracks and collaborating with more and more musicians\, writers\, and other creators. He was one of the first artists in Memphis–or even the world–to give a voice to our collective feelings when he released his album Safe @ Home w/ Jacob Church early in the pandemic. That record–a seven-song exploration of the new normal we were all just beginning to live–resonated around the globe. It even landed a spot on The English Show\, a weekly podcast out of Basel\, Switzerland.\nThen\, after going on to release two solo albums on Small Batch Records\, Hulett reconnected with old friends Melissa Goodwin Shepherd and Adam Poor. They formed the band Restless Townies. Their first album\, Miles Away\, was released in April 2021\, and the trio has continued to release several EPs. In this outfit\, all players write and contribute to each other’s songs.\n\nFor more information\, visit smallbatchrecords.bandcamps.com. You can also follow him at dad_onarrival on Instagram\, JeffHulettMusic on Facebook and Jeff Hulett on Twitter. To hear more about his latest albums including some unreleased material\, and previous releases\, check him out on the Shangri-La Records Podcast here.
