SUMMARY:The Mystic
DESCRIPTION:So\, what is The Mystic? The Mystic is a catalyst; through music\, story\, silence and dialogue\, we hope to strengthen our attachment to hopes and dreams. In the mystic\, diversity is a prerequisite for all creativity\, which is why Crosstown Concourse is the perfect home. In The Mystic\, the world is far-better served by different beliefs than it could ever be if limited by rigid uniformity. \nAnd if this doesn’t rock your gypsy soul\, the goal of The Mystic is to not feel better but get better at feeling.

SUMMARY:Kathy Zhou and Aybil: "REVERIE"
DESCRIPTION:Kathy Zhou and Aybil: “REVERIE” \nThe Green Room @ Crosstown Arts \nFriday\, November 21st\, 2025 \nDoors open at 7:00 pm | Show Starts at 7:30 pm \n$15 in advance (plus fees) | $20 at the door \nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE \nKathy Zhou and Aybil cordially invite you to their evening reverie. Through spellbinding performances by candlelight\, Kathy and Aybil share a night of riveting tales\, heartfelt storytelling\, and community connection through song. Each musician will perform a stripped-down set of their songs\, interweaving the stories behind their music and how each composition came to be. Come join us for an unforgettable\, intimate evening full of close audience interactions interspersed with deep\, heartfelt music meant to unify\, spark dialogue\, and nurture connection. \nKathy Zhou is a genre-bending\, piano-powered\, singer-songwriter whose music incorporates traces of art pop\, baroque folk\, theatre\, and classical. Her work has been described as “mesmerizing\,” evoking the feeling of being on a stormy island\, in a colorful nightmare\, or in a dramatic storybook. Her live performances are vivid and magical\, like if Regina Spektor played in a coffee shop with a fantasy-cinematic twist. From her very first note\, Kathy conveys that something magical and wondrous is happening. Each song is like its own little dramatic play with compelling emotional arcs that sometimes fall into a dreamlike stream of consciousness. Audiences have repeatedly stated that “no one else sounds like her\,” as Kathy has carved a style that is uniquely her own. In 2023\, Kathy’s music video to her song\, “Strange Child\,” was in the international Indie Memphis Film Festival. Kathy’s upcoming work\, “A Vivid\, Magic\, Scene\,” is a collection of songs about processing the past and coming to terms with the present\, drawing upon nature/fantasy themes. \nAybil (pronounced Abel) is a Memphis born singer\, songwriter\, observer\, and peacemaker. Writing since an early age\, she works to express the beauty of joy\, sadness and the moments in the middle. Since making her debut in 2020 with the haunting\, introspective single “Jordan Poole”\, Aybil has continued to self-release genre-blending projects rooted in a love for storytelling. Her sound draws comparisons to the inspiring soulful stylings of Bill Withers and India Arie\, while maintaining a vision all her own. \nAudiences can expect an unforgettable night marked by emotionally stirring instrumentation\, raw vocals and authentic lyricism.

SUMMARY:Autumn Defense + opener Dream Journal
DESCRIPTION:Autumn Defense + opener Dream Journal \nThe Green Room @ Crosstown Arts \nFriday\, November 7\, 2025 \nDoors open at 7:00 pm | Show Starts at 7:30 pm \n$25 in advance (plus fees) | $30 at the door \nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE \nAfter a ten-year break from the studio\, The Autumn Defense pick up right where they left off on their long-anticipated sixth album\, Here and Nowhere. Infusing the band’s breezy\, harmony-drenched take on Laurel Canyon with lush orchestration and psychedelic flourishes\, the collection is dreamy and impressionistic\, full of warm\, inviting tunes as beautiful as they are bittersweet. Like much of the group’s catalog\, it’s an album full of mystery and wonder\, a rich\, open-hearted work that nods to everything from Nick Drake and John Martyn to Carole King and David Crosby as it contemplates the passage of time\, reckoning with what we lose\, what we gain\, and who we become along the way. \nFounded by core duo John Stirratt and Pat Sansone—and now featuring longtime rhythm section James Haggerty and Greg Wieczorek—The Autumn Defense first took shape in New Orleans\, where the band recorded their 2001 debut\, The Green Hour. While the group has at times been pigeonholed as a Wilco side project (Stirratt is a founding member\, and Sansone joined around the release of 2004’s A Ghost Is Born)\, The Autumn Defense’s sound has always been decidedly more West Coast than alt-country\, drawing comparisons to The Beach Boys\, The Byrds\, and Love over the course of five critically acclaimed studio albums. NPR hailed the group’s “timeless pop songs\,” while Rolling Stone called their music “gorgeous” and “delightful\,” and the New York Times praised their delivery as “warm and radiant.” \nOpening the show is duo Dream Journal! \nDream Journal is a collaboration between Rachael Grant and her husband\, Robby (Vending Machine\, Mellotron Variations). He performs songs from his solo catalog and creates swirly loops while Rachael reads excerpts from their dream journals.
