SUMMARY:The Mystic
DESCRIPTION:So\, what is The Mystic? The Mystic is a catalyst; through music\, story\, silence and dialogue\, we hope to strengthen our attachment to hopes and dreams. In the mystic\, diversity is a prerequisite for all creativity\, which is why Crosstown Concourse is the perfect home. In The Mystic\, the world is far-better served by different beliefs than it could ever be if limited by rigid uniformity. \nAnd if this doesn’t rock your gypsy soul\, the goal of The Mystic is to not feel better but get better at feeling.

SUMMARY:Bernell Jones II Returns Home
DESCRIPTION:The Green Room at Crosstown Arts\nFri\, May 8\, 7:30 PM\n\n\n\n\n$24.72The price you’ll pay. No surprises later.\nBuy now\n\n\n\n\nBernell Jones II\, a Memphis native\, returns home for one day after building an astounding career as a musician in New York City! In his time between performing with the likes of Lauryn Hill\, Julius Rodriguez\, Olivia Dean and others\, he has made a name for himself leading an explosive band that plays all his original music. Get ready to hear music you’ve never heard before containing elements of modern electronic jazz mixed with elements of the soul and R&B music Bernell grew up with! \nOriginally from Memphis\, TN\, Bernell Jones II is a saxophonist and songwriter based in NYC. He is known not only for his playing\, but also for disrupting the content creation industry in the music sector with his consistent stream of viral music-comedy videos on Instagram and TikTok. \nBernell picked up the saxophone at age ten after primarily playing piano for four years. This was a huge turning point in his life. Although he doesn’t consider himself a professional pianist\, it aided him in enhancing his compositional skills and his understanding of music. \nHis discography showcases a variety of musical influences from his upbringing such as gospel\, jazz\, blues\, R&B\, etc. Bernell has worked alongside artists such as Ms. Lauryn Hill \, Olivia Dean\, Wyclef Jean\, Philip Harper\, Julius Rodriguez\, and more. He credits his style of writing to the influences his parents played around the house growing up such as Earth\, Wind & Fire\, Michael Jackson\, Maxwell\, and Janet Jackson\, along with jazz influences such as Roy Hargrove\, Miles Davis\, and Herbie Hancock. \nOn his ambitious genre-defying debut album ‘TYPEWRITER\,’ released July 2\, 2024\, Bernell pulled together all of his influences while keeping a consistent signature sound across the project\, even while the songs may vary genre to genre. \nHis most recent release “Love Sings” showcases Bernell’s songwriting abilities through the vocals of Barry Antoine\, and his abilities to band the right talent together by adding New York rapper Nory to the mix.

SUMMARY:An Intimate Night with Keia
DESCRIPTION:The Green Room at Crosstown Arts\nTue\, May 19\, 7:30 PM\n\n\n\nFrom $30.39The price you’ll pay. No surprises later.\nBuy now\n\n\nAbout\n\n\nA night of live music with Strings! Experience Keia in a way you never have before\, an intimate setting with some of your favorite songs. This is a night you don’t want to miss! Keia was born in San Antonio\, TX but grew up all over the world in a Military family. But it was the move to Memphis that helped her establish her sound and performance style. She has performed with some of the best talent Memphis has to offer\, while also building relationships with notable national names like The Bar-Kays and David Porter of Stax Records. \nIn College\, Keia made history by being crowned only the third Black Miss ASU (Arkansas State University). The same university that Miss America 1990 Debbye Turner attended\, and was crowned the first Black Miss ASU. Keia went on to the Miss Arkansas Pageant\, where she was crowned Miss Congeniality\, a name that stuck with her for years to come. She graduated with a degree in Communications emphasis Radio/Television Broadcasting and a minor in Political Science. But the arts kept calling her name. \nYears later\, it was American Idol that served as the true catalyst for Keia to recognize who she was as an Artist and what she wanted to do with her career. The talent competition led her to Hollywood where “Miss Congeniality” wowed the judges for two seasons. Her audition performance of Celine Dion’s vocally rigorous “My Heart Will Go On” prompted guest judge and musical role model \nMary J. Blige to simply declare: “She can sing!” Keia later went on to compete on Season 4 of “The Voice” as well\, but wasn’t chosen for a team. Her journey hasn’t been without its disappointments and de-railings. But she can’t stop singing.
