DESCRIPTION:Crosstown Arts presents Kai Pa Ti by the MengCheng Collective. \nThe Second Floor Studios at Crosstown Arts\nSunday\, July 23-Saturday\, July 29\, 2023\nTimes: 3-7 pm or by appointment\nTickets: Free and open to the public \nJoin the MengCheng Collective for their week-long exhibition Kai Pa Ti. They will showcase collective works made during their two month long Crosstown Arts residency that were inspired by conversations from their weekly potlucks. \nExhibition hours will be July 23-29\, 3-7 pm or by appointment. Appointments can be made by emailing mengcheng.tn@gmail.com. \nWhat is MengCheng 梦城团 Collective? \nAs artists and makers who grew up in Memphis\, Thandi Cai\, Neena Wang\, Yidan Zeng\, and LiLi Nacht formed this collective to challenge the way our cultural histories have been gathered\, disseminated\, or made invisible. \nMengCheng 梦城 “City of Dreams” is inspired by the Chinese phonetic name for Memphis\, or mèng fēi sī. DESCRIPTION:Crosstown Arts presents the Artist Talks: Khara Woods + Tangela Mathis in the East Atrium. \nThe East Atrium at Crosstown Arts\nSaturday\, July 29\, 2023\nTalks: 2-4 pm\nTickets: Free and open to the public \nCurrent exhibiting artists Khara Woods and Tangela Mathis will discuss their work\, processes\, and influences. It’s a chance to get a special glimpse behind the curtain and better understand the art and the artists. \n“Edgewise: Exploring Pattern and Rhythm with Line” by Khara Woods presents a collection of paintings\, sculpture and creative devices developed since 2016. The works examine the creation of movement and texture focusing on a restricted set of grids\, bold colors and shapes inspired by basic geometry. Within these confines\, there are arrangements that intertwine\, shift and vibrate across canvas and wood. \n“Entrances\, Exits and the Spaces Betwixt” by Tangela Mathis presents contrasting aspects of personality\, showcasing the yin and yang of pneuma. The exhibit represents a mental\, emotional\, and spiritual transformation within a palpable dreamscape. Works presented depict and embrace ideas of transitory spaces visually\, mentally and physically.
