DESCRIPTION:Three new exhibitions at Crosstown Arts\, featuring works by Barbara Penn\, George Edward Walker\, and Romain Collin in collaboration with filmmaker Matthew Palmer. \nIn Big Life\, Long Life\, Barbara Penn draws from literary\, poetic\, and everyday sources to explore the space between the personal and the political. Working with painting\, drawing\, text\, and collage\, Penn examines the relationship between “the maternal and culture\,” creating layered images that emerge through associative thinking\, ironic connections\, and bold yet subtle applications of paint. \nGeorge Edward Walker’s A Snippet of God’s Unsung Children’s Journey is a powerful visual statement on resilience\, brilliance\, and strength. Through drawings inspired by the enduring spirit of people who persevered through dehumanizing and brutal treatment\, Walker reflects on dignity\, survival\, and the determination to be free. The exhibition stands as a tribute to “our brave Women and Men” and the resilience that continues to prevail. \nIn Chromesthesia: A Piano Triptych\, Grammy-nominated pianist and composer Romain Collin\, in collaboration with filmmaker Matthew Palmer\, transforms sound into image through a deeply personal exploration of synesthesia. Inspired by his solo piano trilogy DUST\, LIVE\, and AURA\, the multimedia exhibition invites viewers into an internal landscape where sounds become shapes\, textures\, and vivid color. By placing music in dialogue with cinema and visual art\, Chromesthesia creates a space to breathe\, recollect\, and dream a little.

Cyrena Wages\, Granville Automatic\, Erin Webb\, and Caleb Elliott\nThe Green Room at Crosstown Arts\nSaturday\, August 1st\, 2026\nDoors open at 7:00 pm | Show starts at 7:30 pm\n$25 in advance (plus fees) | $35 at the door\nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE\nMemphis’ take on the classic Bluebird Cafe format: a stripped-back evening of songs and storytelling featuring four artists in the round — both hometown favorites and visiting voices. Hosted by Cyrena Wages with special guest appearances. \n\nCyrena Wages fell in love with music on the country backroads between Millington and Shelby Forest\, two small towns just north of Memphis. Her father\, the hometown judge\, drove her to school every day in a 1967 gold Cadillac with the license plate “ROBN HD” on the back\, an homage to the underdog ideology\, and a conceptual through line of her debut 2024 album\, Vanity Project. Wages tapped producer Matt Ross-Spang (Margo Price\, St. Paul & the Broken Bones) to helm Vanity Project\, a heavy hearted country soul meets indie pop confessional\, at his Southern Grooves Studio in Memphis. Upon it’s release\, Cyrena toured in support of artists like Lilly Winwood\, Hailey Whitters\, Maggie Rose\, Lucero\, and Chaparelle\, and debuted in spaces like the Troubadour\, The Bluebird Cafe\, SXSW\, and Americana Fest. \n\n\nBorn and raised in Natchitoches\, Louisiana\, Caleb Elliott is far from your typical preacher’s son-turned-musician. With his father a pastor and his mother the church pianist\, Elliott was immersed in traditional hymns from an early age\, but it was his love for classical cello that would eventually jumpstart his musical career. As a session musician\, Elliott began lending cello to all kinds of albums in the Lafayette music scene\, culminating in a moment that would change his trajectory and finally move him out of Louisiana. In 2014\, singer-songwriter Dylan LeBlanc met Elliott and encouraged him to relocate to Muscle Shoals\, Alabama\, where he still resides today. Once settled in the Shoals\, Elliott became the go-to cellist for an elite collective of collaborators such as Nicole Atkins\, John Paul White\, members of Alabama Shakes\, Maggie Rose\, and Cedric Burnside\, whose 2021 record I Be Trying won a Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album. \nAs a singer-songwriter\, Elliott released his debut record Forever to Fade in 2019\, followed by Weed\, Wine & Time in 2023 (both via Single Lock Records). He has opened for a variety of artists such as Alabama Shakes\, Gaz Coombes (Supergrass)\, Sean McConnell\, Penny and Sparrow\, The White Buffalo\, Fruition\, and The Secret Sisters (who are featured on his recent single). In 2025\, he followed up Weed\, Wine & Time with two new singles\, “I Don’t Believe You” and “Slow Burn\,” in which sonic influences like Harry Nilsson and Louisiana’s own Bobby Charles can be heard woven throughout Elliott’s melodies and arrangements. This year\, Elliott continues releasing singles with his new song\, “Dead Ringer\,” featuring Andy Baxter of Penny and Sparrow.
