After-School Workshop: Exploring Akirash

Students will study a piece from Akirash’s work in Asiko: Moments, on display in the East Gallery. Then they’ll sketch inside his gallery exhibit.

Afterward, in the East Atrium, students will finish their work with acrylic paint. They will do this for three weeks, completing 2-3 works, which will be displayed in a pop-up gallery during the final week (December 15-20).

This three-part workshop will be held on December 3, 10, and 17. This workshop is for students in the 8th-12th grades.

Youth Zine-Making Workshop

THIS WORKSHOP HAS REACHED CAPACITY! Please join us for Memphis Zine Fest on Friday, July 19 though! Free and open to the public.

During this week-long course, students will learn about the origin of zines, how to develop their ideas into a tangible product, and how to flex their social skills muscles. At the end of the week, students are given the opportunity to sell their wares at Memphis Zine Fest.

Taught by local artist and Zine Fest curator Erica Qualy.

We provide all of the basic supplies they’ll need to get started, they just need to bring their ideas. Classes run Monday July 15 – Friday July 19 from 2:30-5:00 pm (with the option of students sticking around and selling their wares at Zine Fest on Friday July 19 from 5-8 pm).

Lifeworks, in conjunction with Crosstown Arts, is pleased to host Los Angeles-based artist, Pamela Jorden, to lead a painting workshop.  In Simultaneous Contrast: Experiments with Color, Jorden will guide participants through considerations of color, texture, and unexpected juxtapositions that inspire experimentation with paint and process. 

Registration fee $125 (materials not included). Lunch will be provided.

Double Feature: The Lock-In 1 & 2

Students from Northwest Prep Academy High School are some of the most brilliant, unheard voices in Memphis. Watch their creative minds and talents on display at this intimate screening of their new film, THE LOCK-IN 2. This is a sequel to the 2017 film THE LOCK-IN, which was created by Northwest Prep students, in collaboration with Crosstown Arts, that year. Both films will be shown in a double-feature.
Light refreshments available at 10 am.
